A small magazine about places worth the trip.

An open atlas with a brass compass and folded paper charts on a wooden desk.

Destinations Magazine is an independent digital magazine about travel — the planning of it, the places it runs through, and the arguments worth having along the way. We publish guides meant to be read before a trip, profiles of places that reward staying longer, and field notes from the road.

This is a new publication on a long-registered domain. The Auckland-based travel magazine that lived at this address in the 2000s was a different publication with different owners, and we have no connection to it. We kept the name because it says exactly what we do.

What we publish

Guides with opinions and numbers in them. Place profiles that include the parts the postcards skip. Field notes — essays, dispatches, and the reasoning behind an itinerary. Occasional by design, edited carefully, and written to be read in a single sitting.

How we work

  1. 01

    The long way there

We plan for slow routes, second mornings, and one valley instead of three. A good trip isn't measured in ground covered.

  2. 02

    Nothing in the way

No trackers, pop-ups, or infinite scroll. Just sentences, photographs, and room to think.

  3. 03

    Honest about the trade

Crowds, costs, and closed days get written about plainly. A guide is only worth the parts you'd warn a friend about.
